- Captured on 20 February 2026, this aerial photograph records construction at the Somerton Intermodal Terminal in Melbourne's north. The image looks across the terminal's rail-mounted gantry cranes, the Melbourne-Sydney freight corridor and the surrounding industrial and residential edge of Somerton. The project is being built at Austrak Business Park, on a site with an earlier intermodal freight-terminal history: a parliamentary inquiry recorded that the original Somerton terminal was constructed in 2005. In 2023, the Australian and Victorian governments described the new approximately 400 million dollar terminal as a key Port Rail Shuttle Network node, intended to transfer container freight between outer Melbourne and the Port of Melbourne. Seven remote-operated rail-mounted gantry cranes were ordered for the facility, split between inner and outer terminal areas.
